Was the DHS behind the Recent OWS Crackdown?

In a recent interview with the BBC, Oakland mayor Jean Quan off-handedly mentioned that she had been a part of a conference call with mayors from all around the country shortly before a wave of nationwide police raids designed to break up the OWS protests, saying, “I was recently on a conference call with 18 cities across the country who had the same situation. . . .”

Her off-hand remark has led many to speculate on whether or not there was a co-ordinated effort to suppress the OWS movement coming from a federal directive of some kind, perhaps originating from the DHS or perhaps even the whitehouse itself.

The source of these "planned" crackdowns remains unclear. But Jean Quan’s casual remark seems to clearly imply that there has been a widespread co-ordinated effort to suppress the OWS movement.

  1. Hmmm, an interesting supposition. Perhaps there is something to it? Will Americans maintain their right to assembly, or, from the other side, is OWS some sort seriously dangerous threat to American society as we have known it? Is change imminent? What sort of change will it be?

  2. A related blurb on Yahoo: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/memo-exposes-strategy-harm-democrats-undermining-occupy-wall-211532654.html contends that attitudes towards a recent movement (the Tea Party) shows up a contradiction.
